RENOVATION: Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) will spend Sh963 million in upgrading two international departures terminals at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to improve customer experience.

Acting managing director Alex Gitari said the 12-month project will refurbish the departure halls for terminal 1B and C to improve check-in, security screening, retail operations and passenger lounge experience.

Once renovated, the terminals will deliver modern concessions and amenities that eases passenger flow, increase efficiency due to the centralisation of security screening procedures and the reallocation of available floor spaces to international departure gates.

Gitari said to expedite the implementation of this project, airlines that have been operating from the two terminals will temporarily be relocated to Terminal 1A and Terminal 2.

“To minimise inconveniences, passengers are requested to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight departures,” he said.

Food options

Renovations will include new world-class retail and food options, best-in-class technology, upgraded check-in and lounge areas, improved passenger flows and other traveler experience enhancements.

The remodelling project is an integral part of the ongoing JKIA Customer Service Improvement Plan, which was formulated from feedback from KAA stakeholders and customers.
