Muguna hints his time at K’Ogalo close to end

The financial woes bedevilling record Kenya Premier League champions could be their Waterloo and former captain Kenneth Muguna has apparently had enough of it.

The midfielder who has had two different stints with the 19-time champions says time is of the essence and he needs financial stability.

Muguna, 25, has spoken of moving to a top team playing in a competitive league, a clear show that his time at K’Ogalo could be well and truly over.

“I want to move to a team that plays in a quality league. The other most important thing is finances because I am not getting any younger,” he told the press recently.

A bitter fallout between the player and the management following his demotion from the captaincy has been reported.

Insiders believe the move to un-band Muguna in favour of returning Harun Shakava was the last straw and that his heart was no longer at Gor Mahia who signed him four years ago from Western Stima FC.

There have been murmurs about Muguna being unable to lead the players this  season after with the team having lost six matches out of  the 14 played, handing Gor their worst start in years.

Already a couple of regional clubs including Simba SC, DC Motema Pembe and Petro Atletico have been circling the former FK Tirana offensive player and observers believe it is only a matter of time before he puts pen to paper.

Muguna, however, has denied receiving official bidding from any quarter despite remaining with seven months on his contract. “So far there has been nothing concrete and I have not begun any contract talks with my current employer,” he said.

Gor Mahia who are currently sponsored by betting firm BetSafe have accrued arrears for its playing unit and there are worries more top players could vacate just like lead striker Nicholas Kipkirui who moved over to fellow premiership side Nairobi City Stars.
